Today a day of silence has been announced in Iran on the eve of the second round of the elections to the Majlis (parliament). All campaigning was stopped in the country on April 28th in accordance with the electoral law.
In the second round of the elections 136 candidates, who failed to obtain the required minimum 25% of votes cast, will compete for 68 remaining seats in 55 constituencies.
Among the 138 competing candidates, 53 are the Conservatives, 38 are the reformers and 45 others are independents, Mehr reports.
According to Agence France-Press, the conservatives won 103 seats, the reformists and centrists won 99 seats, and independents and religious minorities won 19 seats in the first round of the elections.
