Dmitry Kiselyev: reason for information war against Azerbaijan lies in its independent policy

An information war against Azerbaijan is being conducted today because of the independent policy of the republic, Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency Director General Dmitry Kiselyov said at the Forum of European and Asian Media (FEAM) titled 'Sustainable partnership in an unstable world'.

Kiselyov stressed that the independent policy of Azerbaijan is the driving force behind the development of the country. "I have been in Azerbaijan not so long ago and saw the progress, I even met with President Ilham Aliyev. I understand that the reason for it lies in the independent policy of the country, which doesn't want to join NATO and other Western structures. However, Baku keeps its distance in relations with Russia too, and we understand its desire to keep equidistance," the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza cited him as saying.

The General Director of Rossiya Segodnya noted that very few countries in the world are able to implement such a sovereign and independent policy. "Such countries as Azerbaijan can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Others, anyway, are adapting themselves. Let's say, the UK does not have even the nuances of sovereignty. The European Union just lies down and does everything the US tells it," Dmitry Kiselyov reminded.

Azerbaijan does not behave this way, and therefore an active media war is being waged out against it. "They say that we need a different model, the cultural model of a melting pot, which is the model of the US. When the US says that it is necessary to take part in the bombings in the Middle East and so on, Europe does it. Of course, Azerbaijan looks completely independent, so it is a target of revenge," the Director General of the IIA Rossiya Segodnya said.

Today Moscow is hosting the Forum of European and Asian Media (FEAM) titled 'Sustainable partnership in an unstable world', organized by the IIA Rossiya Segodnya. It is attended by the chief editors and senior managers of the most respected and popular media, the heads of major TV companies and internet portals and well-known journalists of the 14 post-Soviet states – Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Estonia.

The main agenda of the FEAM-2015 is media interaction among the countries of the former Soviet Union under different political and economic processes. The FEAM-2015 program includes special sessions with Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, writer and journalist Viktor Yerofeyev, as well as the chief editor of the newspaper 'Tomorrow', the chairman of the Izborsk club, Alexander Prokhanov.
