The European Union reiterates that it does not recognize the results of the Crimean referendum, according to the EU declaration on Crimea and Sevastopol.
"The European Union remains committed to fully implementing its non-recognition policy, including through restrictive measures. The European Union calls again on UN Member States to consider similar non-recognition measures in line with the UN General Assembly Resolution 68/262," High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini noted in a statement.
The statement also stress that the EU believes that these actions have led to a "dangerous increase in tensions at the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov".
On March 16, 2014, Crimean authorities held a referendum on reuniting with Russia. On March 18, President Vladimir Putin signed the treaty on Crimea’s reunification with Russia and the Federal Assembly approved the document on March 21.
