The EU will fund reconstruction of Ukraine in the future only in exchange for reforms in this country, European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen said at a press conference after the EU Summit Tuesday.
According to the EU official, the EU and the US plan to develop a plan to attract investments to reconstructions of Ukraine, but these investments must be accompanies with reforms of the administration system, increased independence of judicial system, and fight against corruption in order to create positive conditions for business.
Von der Leyen did not specify the exact funding sum and when the EU and the US will be ready to provide it.
She noted that, in addition to future reconstruction investments, the EU will review plans of providing emergency macro financial aid of 9 billion euro to Kiev in the upcoming weeks.
Previously, the European Commission offered EU member states to issue eurobonds to fund this aid package to Ukraine, but this idea was not support by European states, which means the European Commission will have to come up with an alternative mechanism.
