Eleven Georgian parties refuse to participate in October's mid-term elections to parliament

In Georgia eleven opposition parties have refused to participate in the interim parliamentary elections in two electoral districts, announcing a boycott.

The reason for such a decision was that the authorities failed to carry out changes to the electoral system of Georgia, although they had promised to do so.

The leader of the 'Democratic Movement' party, Giorgi Akhvlediani, said that the "ruling coalition 'Georgian Dream', in the period of its opposition to Saakashvili promised to cancel the majority system, change the quotas in electoral commissions and to make biometric voters lists. However, while being in power, 'Georgian Dream' reformed nothing."

It should be noted that all eleven parties participating in the boycott failed to overcome the 5% barrier at the elections in 2012, Interfax writes.
