Eurasian Forum of Women emphasizes their role in modern world

The two-day Eurasian Women's Forum has come to an end In St. Petersburg.

The speaker of the Federation Council of Russia, Valentina Matviyenko, became the head of the organizing committee. She also chaired the last plenary session.

The forum was attended by MPs, representatives of executive bodies, the business community, academia and non-governmental organizations, and influential figures in the international women's movement from many countries.

They discussed issues of social security and sustainable development, international cooperation for progress and confidence, extending women’s opportunities in them through changing economic conditions, politics, and social integration.

A statement was the outcome of the forum.

"The first Eurasian Women's Forum has become a manifestation of the positive trend towards the consolidation of the international women's community in the name of peace, justice, harmony and social well-being,’’ the text of the statement reports.

"More and more women take part in socio-economic activities, contribute to the development of international cooperation in all areas. The role of women in building and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, implementation of a global strategy for health maintenance, insurance of the principles of social justice, implementation of charity and promoting humanitarian projects is traditionally high,’’ the document reports.

It also expresses a protest "against political and other kinds of sanctions, including against members of parliament, as contrary to international law and democratic values ​, which can undermine the foundations of political cooperation and mutual trust."

They also proposed holding a second forum in 2018 and making it permanent.

Vestnik Kavkaza asked Veronica Krasheninnikova, the General Director of the Institute of Foreign Policy Research and Initiatives, to say what the main results of the event were.

According to her, "The Eurasian Women's Forum has demonstrated a consolidation of the international women's community." "Women have always been a significant political force, especially in the Western countries. It is very important that Russia is resuming the tradition of work, active work with the international women's community. Representatives of 80 countries of the world women's elite attended the forum in St. Petersburg . These women have high positions in the executive and legislative bodies of their countries, as well as in society,’’ the member of the forum concluded.
