Ex-U.S. envoy to Soviet Union: there's no evidence of Moscow's guilt in Bucha

Former U.S. Ambassador to the Soviet Union Jack Matlock told CNN they do not know for sure exactly what happened in Bucha and don't know that it was ordered from Russia.

In the first place Matlock said that he was not ambassador to Russia, he explained that he was ambassador to the Soviet Union, which, of course, included Ukraine.

"First of all, we do not know for sure exactly what happened with these apparent atrocities. And, certainly, we don't know that they were ordered from Moscow," the ex-envoy said.

"The thing is, practically speaking, I believe that the Ukrainians need to make a deal. They do need to find some way to let Russia keep Crimea, where the majority of people are Russian, and where Russia has a naval base," he said.

"To think that the world war benefited from making Russia, a nuclear power equivalent to the United States, a pariah, I think, does not really represent our interests in the future," Matlock added.
