Exhibition dedicated to 2000th anniversary of Derbent opens in Moscow

The exhibition 'Derbent-2000. Dagestan. Russia', dedicated to the anniversary of one of the oldest cities in the country, was opened today in the State Historical Museum of Moscow, the Dagestani Minister of Culture, Zarema Butaeva, said.

"The objectives of the exhibition are to show Derbent and present stages of the intense way of the cultural and historical development of Dagestan to a wide audience," Interfax-South cited Butaeva as saying.

The exhibition includes five sections: Antiquity, the Middle Ages, XVIII century, XIX century, Modernity.

In the Antiquity section you can see unique archaeological finds discovered during excavations on the territory of Dagestan and Derbent. The Middle Ages sector presents manuscripts in Arabic, and the 'arrival of Emperor Peter I in Derbent' exhibition presents the key that the people of Derbent presented to Peter I, old keys from the city walls and other exhibits. Also at the exhibition you can see objects from an Eastern Bazaar and an interesting collection of weapons, for example, Marshal Zhukov's enamel sword.

The Minister of Culture of Dagestan said that the exhibition is accompanied by contemporary works of fine art of Dagestan.
