Expert: COVID-19 infection rate to fluctuate until 60% of Russians get vaccinated

The COVID-19 infection rate in Russia will fluctuate until 60% of its adult population get vaccinated against the disease, Deputy Director of Russia’s Central Research Institute of Epidemiology Alexander Gorelov said.

"In order to expect a decrease in infection rate, we need to vaccinate 60% of the adult population who have not been diagnosed with the virus. Until this level is reached, there can be wave-like fluctuations of the daily infection rate," TASS cited him as saying.

Earlier, Russia’s anti-coronavirus crisis center informed a daily increase in cases of 17,741, which is the lowest figure since October 29.

Russia launched mass COVID-19 vaccination of all groups of population on January 18. Russians can choose between two Russian-made vaccines - Sputnik V or Epivaccorona.

Since the start of the pandemic, about 100.3 mln people have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and over 2.1 mln have died. Russia has documented 3,774,672 cases of COVID-19, 3,202,483 patients have recovered and 71,076 have died.
