Explosion at New York bus terminal

Explosion at New York bus terminal

Several persons have been injured after an explosion at New York Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan this morning.

A witness described hearing what sounded like two separate blasts at the largest bus station in New York.

Police confirmed that one person had been taken into custody following the explosion at the terminal on the corner of 42nd Street and 8th Avenue.

Several people were reportedly injured. An NYPD source on the scene told Fox News a device went off and there was a person strapped with a bomb, FoxNews reported.

There are unverified reports that the blast may have been as a result of a pipe bomb that partially detonated in an underpass. It is thought that the bomb may have gone off prematurely and was not intended to have detonated in that location, sources told CNN.

The busy terminal near Times Square has been evacuated and the area is closed off to traffic.  The A, C and E lines have been evacuated.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders tweeted that Donald Trump had also been briefed on the situation.
