The UN Security Council has recently voted on a draft resolution into the Malaysian plane crash, which provides for the establishment of an international tribunal into the crash of the Boeing over Donbass on the 17th of July 2014.
11 members of the Security Council voted for it. China, Angola and Venezuela abstained.
Russia used its veto and blocked the draft resolution.
Later, the Russian Foreign Ministry explained that this is an untimely proposal, and a counterproductive idea of creating such a tribunal. "Our persistent explanations weren’t accepted in respect of the untimely and counterproductive stepwithout precedent in the past, long before the completion of the ongoing investigation of the circumstances of the crash,’’ RIA Novosti cites the Foreign Minister’s message.
"In these circumstances, the Russian Federation intends to prevent a split in the UN Security Council and to discuss the matter in a constructive way. We found it impossible to miss the imposed a politicized decision by voting against it,’’ added MFA representatives.
"We would like to reaffirm our commitment to the detailed and impartial international investigation in respect of the crash of the Malaysian airliner. Russia will continue to make the most generous efforts to provide every possible assistance to the investigation of the disaster," - concluded the Foreign Ministry.
