Speaking about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict it is necessary to rely on the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's words that historical justice and international law are on the side of Azerbaijan, the Director of the Azerbaijani Center for Strategic Studies, Farhad Mammadov, said at the international conference dedicated to the humanitarian catastrophe, which occurred as a result of the Khojaly tragedy.
"Yerevan is afraid of truth, because, on the basis of humanitarian law, the Armenian side cannot give any reasons (of his innocence - VK)," the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza cited him as saying.
The Director of the Azerbaijani Center for Strategic Studies noted that due to the fact that the OSCE Minsk Group does not press the aggressor, the conflict was still not settled.
"Due to failure to settle the conflict, Azerbaijan imposed sanctions against Armenia. In the first place it concerns the abolition of the trade relations, as well as the removal of Armenia from regional projects," Farhad Mammadov said.
Moldovan scientist, political analyst, deputy director of the Institute for Effective Politics Ruslan Shevchenko reminded that the Armenian side's interest in the town of Khojaly was due to its strategic location. "Firstly, it was linked to the airport located in Khojaly, which was a single in the Karabakh region. Secondly, the location of the town on the Agdam - Shusha and Askeran - Khankendi roads was valuable," the scientist said.
He noted that the first attack on Khojaly happened in September 1988. Armenian militants managed to burn some houses, but the army arrived at time". In subsequent years, the situation remains tense there," the analyst pointed out.
Shevchenko said that in early 1992, the Armenian separatists held talks with the leadership of the Transcaucasian Military District and got unlimited access to the warehouses of the armed forces stationed in the region.
