 First meeting of intergovernmental commission of Azerbaijan and UK held

The first meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom was held in London on February 11.

The meeting was co-chaired by the Azerbaijani Minister of the Economy Shahin Mustafayev and the UK Minister for Trade and Investment, Francis Maude.

Shahin Mustafayev said that economic relations between the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan are actively developing. According to him, at the moment 24 documents on the strengthening of economic cooperation have already been signed between the two countries, AzerTAc reports.

Currently 473 British companies operate in Azerbaijan. UK companies also participate in projects as contractors. The UK is the country most actively investing in the Azerbaijani economy. At the moment, the UK has invested over $23 billion in Azerbaijan’s economy.

The UK Minister for Trade and Investment Francis Maude said his country is interested in extending relations between Azerbaijan and the UK, underlining that the discussions held in the meeting will be important for economic cooperation.  
 
At the end of the meeting, Shahin Mustafayev and Francis Maude signed a protocol.
