First visit of new Azerbaijani Foreign Minister to Russia begins

Newly appointed Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has begun his official visit to Russia.

Bayramov first visited the grave of the unknown soldier at the Kremlin walls, and laid a wreath on it, the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reported.

This was followed by the head of the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister's visit to the Azerbaijani embassy and his meeting with Azerbaijani ambassador in Moscow Polad Bulbuloglu.

During the visit, the minister met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, and will also hold meetings at the Federation Council and the Cabinet of Ministers of Russia.

The meeting, which has begun in a tet-a-tete format, will be followed with the participation of delegations.

"The heads of the foreign ministries will discuss the status and prospects of bilateral cooperation, key aspects of the regional and international agenda, including settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Jeyhun Bayramov is also scheduled to meet with Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Averchuk and Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Ilyas Umakhanov.

According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "Russia and Azerbaijan are linked by the strategic partnership, built based on good-neighborliness, equality, and mutual respect's interests." The ministry recalled that the fundamental bilateral document is the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Security between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan dated July 3, 1997. The provisions of the Treaty were further developed in the Declaration of Friendship and Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan dated July 3, 2008.

"We consider the upcoming visit in the context of the continuation of the Russian-Azerbaijani political dialogue, the further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation," the Russian ministry concluded.
