German authorities in the southwestern town of Gaggenau evacuated the city hall on Friday after receiving a bomb threat one day after they cancelled an event where Turkey's justice minister Bekir Bozdag was to speak.
Asked if the bomb threat was linked to the cancellation, Gaggenau mayor Michael Pfeiffer said: "We presume this at the moment, but we don't know for sure. We presume there is a direct link," Reuters cited him as saying.
Bekir Bozdag had planned to address supporters of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in the town on Thursday. Bozdag cancelled a meeting with his German counterpart Heiko Maas and flew back to Turkey.
"We assume that the situation could become too dangerous," Pfeiffer said, who insisted that the decision to call off the rally had not been political.
