Yesterday in the Georgian Patriarchate a meeting between Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II and the EU Ambassador Janos Herman took place, where the process of the European integration of the country was discussed. At the same time, Herman emphasized the importance of the support for this process by the patriarch.
"We are very well aware of the contribution that Georgia, with its ancient culture, has made to the development of European culture and civilization, and this contribution has been made for centuries. We are also very mindful of the important role played by the Georgian Church in this process over the ancient history of your country. We know very well how important it is, and that is a spiritual heritage. I want to say thank you very much for your efforts and support in order for Georgia to become a member of the European structures,’’ the EU Ambassador thanked Ilia II.
