Azerbaijan's Armed Forces are ready for the liberation of the occupied areas of the country, the deputy chief of the Azerbaijani General Staff, Lieutenant-General Nizam Osmanov, said today, recalling that last April the Azerbaijani army dealt a crushing blow to the enemy, preventing a provocation of Armenia.
"It has once again demonstrated the power of the Azerbaijani army. The clashes showed that the Azerbaijani people and state will never reconcile themselves with aggression and restore the territorial integrity of the country at any cost," Osmanov said.
On the night of April 2 all Azerbaijan’s border line positions were subject to heavy fire from large-caliber artillery, mortars, grenade launchers and guns. In addition, densely populated Azerbaijani settlements near the front line, were also shelled.
As a result of the operations, the Armenian Armed Forces were eliminated in the heights near the village of Talish, which were retreating to the Goranboy region and the town of Naftalan. Units of the Azerbaijani army also took up positions on the ‘Lale Tepe’ heights.
