General Staff: Euphrates Shield saves Turkey from ISIL shelling

The Euphrates Shield operation, during which Turkey-backed Syrian rebels seized control of nine areas, protected Turkey from the attacks of extremists, the Turkish General Staff said.

"The opposition Free Syrian Army seized control of the settlements of Suran, Ihtimalat, Dabiq, Tulaylin, Havar En Nahr, Asanbul, Rasm Al Ward, Salihiye and Hamidiye, located east of the city Mare in the Aleppo province. Taking control of the areas had eliminated the threat to Turkey from rockets fired by the jihadists, largely achieving border security between the Turkish towns of Kilis and Karkamis," the report says.

According to the Turkish General Staff, since the beginning of Euphrates Shield operation, the Free Syrian Army backed by the Turkish army seized control of 1220 square kilometers in northern Syria and 146 settlements, RIA Novosti.
