The Defense Ministers of Japan and Georgia, Gen Nakatani and Tina Khidasheli, signed a memorandum of cooperation in the military sphere today based on the results of their talks in Tokyo.
"Until now, there was no interaction in the field of defense between our two countries," the head of the Defense Ministry of Japan said. He expressed hope that these contacts will become active after the signing of the memorandum.
Khidasheli, in her turn, said that she hopes for the development of strategic partnership between the two countries.
According to the new document, Georgia and Japan will hold regular consultations at the level of representatives of relevant departments, organize exchanges of educational and research programs in the field of defense, TASS reports.
