Georgia's Chief Prosecutor leaves his post

Chief Prosecutor Irakli Shotadze has resigned, InterPressNews reported.

Irakli Shotadze was elected on the post of Chief Prosecutor on November 27 of 2015. 

Shotadze resigned amid protest caused by the caused by the verdict announced by the Tbilisi City Court on Khorava street murder case. One of the defendants, who was charged for premeditated murder of two teenagers, was found guilty in premeditated murder of Levan Dadunashvili and announced not guilty in premeditated murder of Davit Saralidze. As for another defendant, he was found guilty of attempted murder of Davit Saralidze.

The verdict of the judge was followed by the noise outside the City Court building.  The 4-month Court trial hearing on the murder of teenagers on Khorava Street ended on May 30. Since juveniles are involved in the case, the court sittings were closed according to the Juvenile Justice Code. Two 16 year-old pupils - Davit Saralidze and Levan Dadunashvili were killed on Khorava Street in Tbilisi on December 1 of 2017. Police have detained two murder suspects and indicted five more on charges of covering up the crime.
