Georgia's largest internet service providers are thinking about merger

Georgian telecommunication companies Silknet and Caucasus Online have made a joint request to the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC) on the merger issue. This is stated in an official statement of Caucasus Online.

Silknet controls 76.4% of the market for the provision of DSL internet technology. Caucasus Online – 52.4% of the market for the provision of internet over fiber optic networks (Silknet has 25.3%).

Currently the two companies do not have any legally binding agreements. Prior approval of the Commission is needed for a merger or sale of assets in this area. "It is important to know what the position of GNCC will be on a possible merger in order to start talks on this issue," the Caucasus Online statement says.
