Georgia tightens visa controls at state border

Following the terrorist attacks in Paris, Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Mgebrishvili ordered visa controls to be tightened at all state border checkpoints, the Interior Ministry said.

The police are carrying out detailed interviewing of passengers to reveal the true motivations for their visits. "All procedures are being conducted in accordance with international standards," Georgia Online reports.

"The Ministry continues to work in a special regime to protect the security of the population," the ministry added.

479 foreign citizens were not allowed to enter Georgia from 14 to 24 November. Border police officers detained 1 Georgian and 31 foreign citizens for illegally crossing the state border.
