Georgia to increase environmental protection tenfold

Georgia intends to increase the number of forces involved in the protection of the environment tenfold, the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili said at the UN conference on climate change.

"No country is immune from climate change. Natural disasters, such as floods and landslides, are frequent in Georgia due to the difficult mountainous topography. I remember the floods that took place in our capital in June, which killed 19 people and destroyed the center of Tbilisi. In addition, the sea level rise has caused the intensification of storms and coastal erosion, which led to the destruction of infrastructure and shores," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.

In this regard, "the Georgian government is ready to increase the efforts to protect the environment tenfold."

He also touched on the problem of terrorism in his speech.
