Georgia's government has announced the launch of the Climate Change Adaptation Programme with a budget of $70 million .
The program aims to protect the country from natural disasters and decrease damage caused by disasters to a minimum.
The programme budget unites funds allocated by the Green Climate Fund (GCF)-$27 million, $5 million provided by the Swiss government and a $38 million contribution from the Georgian state budget.
The programme will be implemented by the Georgian Environment Ministry, with the cooperation of different state agencies and with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Agenda.ge reported.
"As Georgia has a special geographical location with diverse climate conditions, we need to be particularly cautious of the climate change and the threats caused by such changes," Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze said.
The priority fields will be the expansion of risk-monitoring networks, the installation of early warning systems and building of protective infrastructure.
