Georgia wants to join NATO without MAP

Georgian Defense Minister Tina Khidasheli has spoken about the country's desire to become a NATO member state, bypassing the stage of receiving a Membership Action Plan (MAP).

"The most important thing after the Warsaw Summit is Georgia bypassing the intermediate step on the path to NATO membership. Accordingly, when I say that the MAP is not my goal, I mean it," RIA Novosti cited her as saying.

The minister clarified that Tbilisi would "jump" the Membership Action Plan, but it would not mind if they receive it. Khidasheli also expressed the view that the process of Georgia's accession to NATO can be accelerated due to the situation in Syria.
