Georgian peacekeepers from a National Guard unit set off for their tour of duty in the European Union's Central African Republic mission on Wednesday, marking the latest deployment of servicemembers from Georgia in the effort.
A platoon-size unit was sent off from the Alekseyevka Military Airfield by National Guard commanders and Lieutenant Colonel Danny Pith, France's defence attaché in Georgia. The peacekeepers will serve in the sixth rotation in the country for Georgian troops.
Commanded by Captain Nikoloz Asanashvili, the unit will be tasked with providing base security for Camp UCATEX in Bangui, conducting motorised patrols and carrying out convoys and escorts, Agenda.ge reported.
Georgian peacekeepers have been distinguished for their service in the European Union Training mission (EUTM RCA) in the country, with military awards handed out to officers from the National Guard over the past two years.
