Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and King Felipe VI of Spain discussed the opening of the International Tourism Fair scheduled for today in Madrid.
Discussing tourism as one of the most important socioeconomic sectors of the country, Kvirikashvili said that in 2016, about 6.4 million guests visited Georgia and tourism revenues exceeded $2 billion.
The meeting at the El Pardo Palace was attended by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary General Taleb Rifai.
After the meeting, the inauguration of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development was held at the royal palace, attended by representatives of global political and economic communities.
In his speech delivered at the event, the UNWTO Secretary General said Georgia is a brand associated with a beautiful country and wonderful people, Agenda.ge reports.
