Georgia’s revenues from tourism reached $476 million in July, a 20% increase from the same month of the pre-pandemic 2019 and a roughly 130% increase from July 2021, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said.
"[Last month] the income from [international tourism] exceeded the figures from 2019 for the first time after the pandemic. In other words, it not only recovered, but surpassed the data of 2019, and we have a record rate of revenues from tourism", Garibashvili said.
The PM added the country’s economy had seen an income of $1.618 billion from international tourist visits between January-July.
"Such trends observed in export and tourism allow us to say that high growth of economic activities will be maintained [...] This means more employment, income growth and poverty reduction", Garibashvili said.
The number of arrivals of international non-resident travellers in Georgia equalled 1.04 million in the second quarter of this year, marking a 198.7 increase compared to the same period of 2021, the latest data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia shows.
Expenditures during the visits made in the Q2 equalled ₾2.3 billion (about $0.85bln), with average expenditure reaching ₾2,440.2 (about $897.14), Geostat also said.
