German Foreign Minister is asked to take a clear position on "Nord Stream-2"

The candidate for the post of head of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Norbert Röttgen, said in an interview with the DPA agency that German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock should take a "clear position" regarding the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

The politician noted that for Baerbock, who "was in opposition for years, demanded that the project be halted, it was a matter of trust". According to Röttgen, it is “impossible to imagine” that Nord Stream 2 would be launched in the event of an escalation of tensions in Ukraine.

Annalena Baerbock has constantly demanded that the project be stopped in recent years. Now that she is the Foreign Minister in the government of Social Democrat Olaf Scholz, the main foreign policy course is determined in the Chancellor's office, not in the Foreign Ministry.

Scholz himself has been extremely restrained about the gas pipeline so far. The German Chancellor noted that no country can violate the borders of another state, otherwise "there will be consequences".
