Germany cannot afford to refuse Nord Stream pipeline

The President of the German Deutsche Bank, Christian Sewing, urged not to introduce new anti-Russian sanctions and warned against cutting off the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline.

"First, we must allow the announced sanctions to take effect. However, these sanctions also have a negative impact on us, and we must endure it," RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.

He stressed that if Berlin cuts off the gas pipeline, this would lead to serious problems with energy supply and a significant increase in prices in Germany.

According to Sewing, the previous and new anti-Russian sanctions will have a negative impact not only on the Russian economy but also "on us." "The need for new, even tougher sanctions, we must constantly re-examine," he added.

Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called on the European Union to completely stop trade with Russia.

"I expect that there will be a new sobering up of European leaders, who at the next meeting of the European Council will be able to adopt a new package of sanctions. Poland proposes to add a trade blockade to this package of sanctions as soon as possible," he said.

According to him, during the blockade, it is necessary to introduce a ban on "the entry of Russian ships under the Russian flag with Russian goods into ports, as well as a ban on trade by land."
