Government troops capture key base in south of Syria

In Syria, government forces have managed to oust rebels from the key military base in the province of Dar, located in the south of the country, as well as take control of several mountain villages and the northern part of the provincial capital, the city of Dar.

This military base is located in the town of Sheikh al-Maksen in the province of Dar about 90 kilometers south of Damascus, near the border with Jordan. The Syrian army lost control over it in January 2014.

The director of the British-based Syrian Centre for Human Rights Monitoring, Rami Abdurrahman, said that the capture of the base and settlements in Dar "is very important for strengthening the powers [of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad]," because now the road that links Damascus and Dar is under the control of the government forces , RBC reports.
