NATO Foreign Ministers confirmed the decision to invite Macedonia to join the alliance after it solves the problems with its name.
"We reaffirm our decision made at the 2008 Bucharest Summit and reiterated at subsequent Summits that NATO will extend an invitation to the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, as soon as a mutually acceptable solution to the name issue has been reached within the framework of the UN, we continue to urge intensified efforts towards that end," Gazeta.ru cited the statement of the Foreign Ministers.
But Greece opposes the use of the name 'Macedonia' by the Republic of Macedonia, supporting a compound name such as 'the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia'.
