Spain’s Guillermo Abascal has been appointed head coach of the FC Spartak Moscow football club, its press service said on Friday.
The term of the contract with Abascal, 33 is not disclosed.
Abascal is the youngest head coach in Spartak’s history.
Earlier, Abascal worked as the head coach of Lugano. In the 2017-2018 season his team took eighth place to remain in the ten-team elite division of the Swiss championship. Also, Abascal worked as a member of the Basel coaching staff last season. He was appointed as acting head coach in February. Under Abascal’s guidance Basel placed second in the Swiss championship.
FC Spartak under Italy’s Paolo Vanoli took tenth place in the Russian Premier League last season and won the national Cup. Vanoli stepped down on June 9.
