The European Commission welcomes the release of the famous Turkish journalist and human rights defender, Orhan Kemal Cengiz, who was detained last week, the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Expansion Issues, Johannes Hahn, said.
"Welcome release of human rights defender Johannes Hahn Cengiz. Hope that travel ban will also be lifted and other releases will follow," he wrote on his Twitter page.
On July 21, Turkish authorities detained rights activist and lawyer Orhan Kemal Cengiz at Ataturk airport, preventing him from attending a conference in London.
