The presentation of the exhibition 'The Artist of brush and words' and the book 'Reflections' by a Ph.D., a member of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers, the Union of Azerbaijani Artists, the Union of Russian Writers and the California Institute of poetry, Maya Badalbeyli, is being held in the M.I.Rudomino All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature today.
The event is organized in collaboration with the office of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Russia and the Azerbaijani cultural center within the framework of the library's exhibition center 'An Artist and a word' program.
The exhibition presents about 30 oil pastel paintings of Maya Badalbeyli, which have been painted since 1997. The artist uses an automatic drawing, explored by the surrealists, which allows to obtain expressive pieces of art in terms of color and shape.
Maya Badalbeyli is primarily a writer, best known for such literary works as 'A Word', 'A Dialogue', 'Voices of the Universe', 'Who did call himself a saint?' and 'Reflections'. To date, she has produced more than 250 paintings, which have been exhibited in Baku and Moscow.
Maya Badalbeyli told Vestnik Kavkaza that she has never studied painting. "It was a surprise to me, when I suddenly saw colors on a white sheet of paper, it was like an obsession. I then bought an album, started drawing and saw amazing paintings. All you see is only a pastel painted with fingers and fingernails," she said, adding that the exhibition at the Lthe M.I.Rudomino All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature became the largest in Moscow.
"Themes that I paint correspond to my poems. It is sadness. Most of all I like autumn, when I paint trees, nature, and the faces of people who are important to me. It is a season of memories, when you have to think about what excites you. My book 'Reflections' is consonant with all these paintings," Maya Badalbeyli admitted.
