Georgia has adopted a law ‘On the development of mountainous regions’, aimed at improving the living conditions of people in these areas. It is expected that it will stop the mass migration of residents of the mountainous areas to big cities.
The law comes into force on January 1, 2016. According to it, the pension in the mountain areas will be increased by 20% compared with other regions. Teachers of schools and colleges will get a bonus of 35% of their regular salary. Families will receive a monthly allowance of 100 laris ($44) for the first and second born child for one year, and for the third and subsequent child 200 laris (about $88) for two years.
In addition, the law introduces tax incentives for businesses of the mountain settlements, which play a significant role in stimulating small businesses and farms. These benefits are directed at attracting businessmen from the cities to work in the mountains.
