Hikmet Hajiyev: no ODIHR observers - no assessments of elections

The OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) shouldn't voice an opinion on the results of the elections in Azerbaijan, as it didn't participate in them as an observer, the spokesman of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Hikmet Hajiyev, said.

"Azerbaijan, complying with its commitments as part of the OSCE, sent an invitation on July 14, 2015 to the OSCE/ODIHR for it to observe the parliamentary elections scheduled for November 1, 2015. Azerbaijan also sent a reasoned response to the ODIHR with regard to that structure’s report in connection with points with which Azerbaijan didn’t agree. Thus, the ODIHR sending 400 observers to Azerbaijan, which has a population of 9.5 million and 125 constituencies, isn’t logical," he said.

He added that Azerbaijan hasn’t received a logical explanation for the discrepancy between the number of observers and the number of voters, Trend reports.
