Armenia's National Assembly elected Hrayr Tovmasyan as head of the Constitutional Court today by 64 votes cast for him.
Despite the fact that Tovmasyan was the only candidate for this position, as many as 27 MPs voted against him and two ballots were found invalid.
Tovmasyan thanked all those voted for him and vowed to make every effort to solve the existing problems, ARKA reported.
Hrayr Tovmasyan was born on July 8, 1970 in Darakert village, Ararat province. After army service he got juridical education. From 1996 to 2001, Tovmasyan worked at various positions in the Constitutional Court’s legal consulting division and took part in various international programs as lawyer.
Over a period between April and August 2001, he had been deputy nature protection minister. In 2013, he became a member of the president-affiliated Specialized Commission on Constitutional Reforms. From 2014 to 2017, he was secretary general/ head at the National Assembly staff.
In April 2017, Tovmasyan obtained a seat in the National Assembly through the list of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia.
