Human Right Watch reports torture of Azerbaijani prisoners in occupied Karabakh

The International Human Rights Defense Committee reported that the photos of the Azerbaijanis captured by the Armenian side - Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev - taken during the so-called pre-trial hearing show clearly the traces of moral and physical torture.

The international human rights activists note that the letters received by the families of the hostages state that both prisoners have serious health problems. As a result of the irresponsible attitude of the Armenian government towards the difficult conditions of detention, the health of both hostages deteriorates day by day.

According to the human rights activists, the trial of Askerov and Guliyev does not have any legal basis, that is confirmed by the fact that the Armenian side, which started the conflict, ignores the international documents on the protection of war victims and violates the provisions of the international humanitarian law.

"We call upon all international organizations to take immediate action, to help implement the provisions of the international humanitarian law, the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, improve hostage conditions and take urgent measures to ensure their right to return to their families," Sputnik Azerbaijan cites the report.
