Ilham Aliyev: Baku-Yerevan agreement will bring peace to the Caucasus

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev confirmed the information about holding a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and European Council President Charles Michel on April 6.

Speaking about the upcoming talks, the head of the republic hopes for a fruitful meeting. "There have already been several negotiations of this kind. We must move towards peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, sign a peace agreement as soon as possible. Baku presented its principles based on its vision", he said at a meeting with OSCE Chairman Zbigniew Rau.

In addition to this, Ilham Aliyev reminded that "Azerbaijan itself resolved the Karabakh conflict, and now it is time to normalize Armenian-Azerbaijani relations". According to him, Yerevan considers the proposals submitted earlier on a peace agreement between the countries to be acceptable.

"We are receiving certain messages from the Armenian officials. According to the information given to me recently, one of these messages is that they consider our proposals acceptable. This is very good news and I hope that the meeting in Brussels will provide more clarity on this issue." - the republic's head stressed.

Aliyev also said that the five principles of a peaceful settlement proposed to Armenia reflect the norms of international law. "All these principles form the basis of relations between any countries of the world: mutual recognition of territorial integrity and inviolability of borders, then delimitation of borders", the president summed up, adding that peace would come to the Caucasus on this basis.
