Ilyas Umakhanov: radicalization of Armenia to cause radicalization of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

There is a direct correlation between Armenia's internal political situation and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, the representative of the executive body of the Republic of Dagestan, Ilyas Umakhanov told the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza, answering the question of the influence of the current change of power in Armenia on the Karabakh problem. "It seems to me that any possible radicalization in Armenia will inevitably lead to the radicalization of this conflict," he explained.

At the same time, Ilyas Umakhanov expressed hope that the democratic processes in the republic will remain within the framework of the Constitution. "What is happening in Armenia is the issue of internal development. Today, a process of balancing the constructive forces that are set up to stabilize the country is under way in Armenia. So-called street democracy is undoubtedly a manifestation of the citizens' right to protest - but we should not expect that state decisions related to the state's future will be taken at rallies," the senator pointed out.

"I hope that the situation in Armenia will remain in the constitutional field and anyone who will be elected the head of state will continue to adhere to those international and bilateral agreements that exist between Russia and Armenia. I also hope that the new Prime Minister will contribute to strengthening of the bilateral agenda, and the wise Armenian people will make the right decision on May 1, when voting for the new prime minister will be held in the National Assembly of Armenia," Ilyas Umakhanov concluded.
