Inauguration ceremony of President Ilham Aliyev is underway in the Azerbaijani parliament (Milli Majlis) this morning. The ceremony is being attended by Azerbaijani state officials, government members, MPs and family members of the president.
Soldiers of Armed Forces brought the national flag of Azerbaijan and the flag of Azerbaijani president under the solemn march to the stage.
Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev and the judges of the Constitutional Court were invited to the stage.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan, having approved the conclusions of the Central Election Commission on the results of the Azerbaijani presidential election by its resolution dated April 17, 2018, declared Ilham Aliyev the president of Azerbaijan. Ilham Aliyev, who was elected the president of Azerbaijan, in accordance with Article 103 of the country’s Constitution, is invited to take an oath in the presence of judges of the Constitutional Court," Farhad Abdullayev said.
President Ilham Aliyev laid his hand on the Constitution of Azerbaijan and swore an oath. "Exercising the authority of the Azerbaijani president, I swear to observe the Constitution of Azerbaijan, to defend the independence and territorial integrity of the state and to serve the people with dignity," Ilham Aliyev said.
Then the national anthem of Azerbaijan was played. The president swore an oath by laying his hand on the Holy Quran. "By laying my hand on the Holy Quran, I swear to be committed to the national and spiritual values and traditions created by the Azerbaijani people for centuries and constantly cherish them," Ilham Aliyev stated.
Having knelt, the president kissed the national flag of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan held presidential election on April 11. According to the results of the processing of ballots from 5201 polling stations in 125 constituencies operated in the country, the incumbent president, chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev garnered 86.02% of votes in the election. The turnout amounted to 68.7%, that is 3,962,123 of 5,332,817 voters cast ballot in the election.
Under the requirements of the Electoral Code, CEC made a decision on April 15 to submit a protocol on the results of the election along with other relevant documents to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Yesterday, the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan has confirmed the results of the presidential election held in the country on April 11.
