Iranian Majlis gives green light to implementation of nuclear agreement

The Iranian Majlis has approved the final version of the law that allows the government of Iran to begin implementation of the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (SVPD) reached by Tehran and the six negotiators (the five permanent UN Security Council members and Germany).

"Today Iranian lawmakers approved a law that gives the government the right to start implementing the conditions of the independent nuclear agreement with the group of six, starting from July 14th," Tass cites Press TV.

Discussions of the bill were broadcast live. According to them, not all Iranian MPs supported the concessions of the Iranian authorities, which limited its nuclear program as it had been required to do. As a result, 139 (out of 251) parliamentarians supported the bill, 100 were against and 12 abstained.

According to the adopted document "any pressure or threats against the Islamic Republic will lead to a revision of the bilateral cooperation with Iran in the framework of the SVPD." In addition, according to the law, the government will have to stop the SVPD and take retaliatory steps towards restoring the rights of the Iranian people, if the other side ceases to comply with the conditions of the contract. Above all, this concerns the abolition of Western sanctions. In response, Tehran would accelerate the development of its nuclear program and increase its capacity in order to enrich uranium to 190 thousand centrifuges over two years.

Parliamentarians urged the authorities to protect secret information in the sphere of the defense and security of Iran, as well as not allowing IAEA inspectors into military facilities, except for special cases, when a resolution is given only by the Supreme Council of National Security of Iran.

The bill also calls for speeding up the integration of the region in the creation of a Middle East zone which is free from nuclear weapons.

The document approved by Majlis has no evident mismatches with the text of the joint comprehensive action plan.

The SVPD, signed on July 14th in Vienna by Iran and the six intermediaries, involves a long-term limit on the Iranian nuclear program after the removal of Western sanctions against the country.
