Stockholm and Tehran completed a prisoner swap: two of them were returned home by the Iranian side, one by the Swedish side. Sweden unwillingly released an Iranian citizen who was arrested 5 years ago during vacation at a Swedish resort.

Today, in the Omani capital Muscat, the prisoner swap took place according to the “2-on-1” scheme. In particular, the Iranian side released from prison and handed over to Stockholm Swedish diplomat Johan Floderus, who worked in the EU foreign policy structures, and Iranian-Swedish citizen Saeed Azizi.

In response, representatives of Stockholm handed over to Tehran Hamid Nuri, who was taken into custody in Sweden 5 years ago.

Nuri was arrested during a tourist visit to Sweden. He was accused of committing a number of war crimes in 1988. Three years after, Johan Floderus was detained in Iran on suspicion of working with Mossad and sentenced to capital punishment.

Saeed Azizi was convicted for 5 years in prison for participating in an anti-government conspiracy.
