Iran and India discuss construction of new gas pipeline

India and Iran are discussing the possibility of building a gas pipeline through Pakistan's territory from the Iranian coast along the bottoms of the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean to the state of Gujarat in the western part of India.

The managing director of the National Iranian Gas Export Company (NIGEC) Alireza Cameli announced these plans at the World Summit on Energy Policy (World Energy Policy Summit), which is being held in New Delhi now.

"The cost of construction of the underwater pipeline is estimated at $4.5 billion," Tass cites him as saying.
