Iran blames Armenia for Araz River pollution

Iran has been trying to stop the pollution of the Araz River by Armenia for several years, but to no avail, Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said on Monday.

The Iranian Ministry of Energy makes increasing efforts to suppress the pollution of Araz by Armenia each and every year, the head of the Iranian department noted at an event dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Iran-Azerbaijan joint exploitation of Aras and Mill and Moghan dams.

"However, Armenia's steps to prevent the dumping of waste into Araz are not enough. Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Armenia are planning to hold a quadripartite meeting to prevent pollution of the Araz River," Ardakanian said.

The minister added that this meeting may soon take place in Iran.
