Iran's naval forces have started the Velayat-94 military exercises in the Strait of Hormuz, the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Oman, Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said.
"The drills will be held in four stages in a 3 million km square area," RIA Novosti cited the commander as saying.
He noted that the exercises are aimed at demonstrating the capabilities and power of the Iranian Navy in terms of safeguarding security.
