Iran has no plans to carry out military activities outside its borders, a branch of the country’s armed forces stated on Tuesday after Turkey’s president said the two countries were considering joint action against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Rudaw reports.
“We did not prepare any operational plans outside the borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” read a statement from the Ground Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Iranian Kurdistan that is responsible for three provinces bordering the Kurdistan Region and Turkey: West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, and Kermanshah.
“But as in the past, we will strongly encounter any group or individual who seeks to enter the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran to conduct terrorist acts or acts against the security,” continued the statement, as published on Tuesday by Iran’s Tasnim news agency that is close to the IRGC.
Iran’s military chief visited Ankara last week, holding meetings with Turkey’s military leadership and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
