Iran intends to buy water abroad

The Iranian government is considering a bill for regulating the issue of importing water from neighboring countries.

The Chairman of the Energy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, Ali Marvi, said that imports of water could solve the problem of shortage of resources in the country.

"There are three proposals: the first is importing water from Tajikistan, the second is importint water from the Caspian Sea, and the latest and most significant proposal is importing water from the Gulf of Oman. 21 provinces may receive water from this resource,’’ he said.

Marvi said that when he was the minister of oil he supported importing water from Tajikistan, as it was possible to implement the program ‘water in exchange for gas.’

Earlier, Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchyan reported a decline of rainfall by 25% in the country in comparison with previous years, Trend reports.
