Iran is in talks to buy shares in the oil refinery or build a new refinery in Spain, Iran's deputy petroleum minister, the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), Abbas Kazemi, said.

According to him, the same talks are being held with Brazil, Malaysia, South Africa and Indonesia.

"Becoming the shareholder of refineries abroad is the ministry's priority to guarantee its oil exports in the long-term," Shana cited Iran's deputy petroleum minister as saying.

The managing director at the National Iranian Oil Engineering and Construction Company (NIOEC), Hamid Sharif-Razi, previously said that Iran already owns a 30% share in the construction of a refinery with a capacity of 250,000 barrels per day in Malaysia and is in talks to buy a 40% share of a refinery in Indonesia, Trend recalls.
